Conference Information
CONFERENCE MATERIALS
Due to the high cost in printing materials and workbooks, we decided to release the materials early to allow you to print them for yourselves. Effective immediately, the conference materials are available for download in PDF format at the following URL: http://www.utahsaint.org/materials/
We encourage you to print these materials and bring them with you to the conference. We have put a lot of work into these materials to make the training sessions much more effective. These materials were designed to be compiled into booklets. Please where possible use a Duplex Printer and print them front to back.
You do not need to print everything. Please review the schedule at www.utahsaint.org and determine the sessions you plan on attending and print those booklets. If printing these booklets is not possible, you may just choose to refer to them in PDF format. This does not allow for easy note taking, but will at least help you follow along.
Please note that these materials are for use as materials for the UtahSAINT Organization Conference, and are all copyright by their individual authors. Please do not republish these materials without consent.
BRING A LAPTOP
In order to get the most out of this conference, you will need to have a laptop computer with the ability to run VMWare software. For those of you running Windows, we recommend VMPlayer, and for Mac users please have VMWare Fusion installed. VMWare is available for many other platforms, please make the appropriate accommodations to have this system working prior to arriving at UtahSAINTCon.
Once you arrive, you will be given a USB Drive. Please take the time to get the virtual machines on this drive installed and running as quickly as possible upon arrival. Because we are trying to train on so much with so little time, we cannot spend valuable time getting virtual machines working during the trainings. Proctors will be available to assist you in setup as necessary.
If you will be participating in the IP Fundamentals or Wireshark trainings, please also add Wireshark to the list of software to be installed on your computers.
HACKERS CHALLENGE GAME
We are very excited about the Hackers Challenge game. We are sure that you will enjoy yourselves. There are MANY clues and keys which are directly associated with the puzzles of this game, but you may already have found others which are not directly tied to the challenges.
This activity has been a huge hit, and this year we promise to not disappoint. We have added a new category this year, and made the puzzles more fun, and some even more challenging. There are some great prizes for the winners of this challenge, along with bragging rights.
HOTELS AND ACCOMMODATIONS
I sure hope that all of you already have your hotel rooms worked out. We have heard many reports of scarce hotel rooms. If you have not yet found a suitable hotel room, please let us know and we will do our best to pass along recommendations.
If anyone is willing to share hotel rooms, please also let us know and we will put people in touch with each other. Any help in this arena would be appreciated. I myself will be volunteering a spare bed if someone is in dire need.
VENUE INFORMATION
We appreciate first and foremost Dixie State College of Utah for donating the use of their facility to this conference. They have been a great partner of the UtahSAINTCon.
We would ask that as you attend the conference, that you be mindful and respectful of the venue. We do not have people to clean up after us, so please be sure to take a few extra minutes to tidy your work area each day.
We would like to leave the venue in the condition it is lent to us. Please help us obtain that goal by helping out.
LIVE STREAMING OF UTAHSAINTCON
We have made arrangements to stream the conference live. We hope this will be helpful for the many people who did not get registered in time. The information regarding the stream and how to participate will be published to the UtahSAINT Website sometime before the start of the conference. Details are still being worked out so this information will come later.
STAR PARTY / ALTERNATIVES
We have scheduled to have a Star Gazing event, lead by a local astronomer. We would like to remind you of this event and encourage you to bring appropriate star gazing equipment you feel appropriate. We also encourage you to being warm clothing because even though it is St. George, it could end up being cool.
Long range forecast shows that there may be some clouds, and even a chance for a little precipitation on the day of the Star Party. We will decide the day of the event if it will be cancelled due to weather.
If the Star Party is cancelled due to inclement weather, the backup plan is to play StarCraft II in a large LAN Party gathering at the Conference Venue. Please bring that game with you if you have it just in case...
CONFERENCE AGENDA
The latest version of the Agenda has been posted to the UtahSAINT Website. We do not anticipate any further changes to the agenda, so please plan on the times and dates of the various events and trainings. However, this agenda is subject to change as necessary.
UTAHSAINT BRIEFINGS
We traditionally reserve the last day of the conference to let members of the UtahSAINT organization take a few minutes to present on interesting topics. This conference is no different. In fact we encourage your participation.
During the conference, if you would like to add yourself to the list of briefings and present an issue, question, solution, or other related topic, please see Cindy Najarro at the front desk to sign up. Presentations can be as short as you want. We would ask that you keep them under 15 minutes wherever possible.
KEYNOTE ADDRESS AND BOOK SIGNING
If you would like to have Cricket Liu sign your copy of the O'Reilly DNS/BIND book. Please bring that with you on Wednesday. It is not often we have the opportunity to have this type of individual participate in our conference. We are excited to have him join us and Deliver the Keynote Address. We are sure that you will find his insight on DNS interesting.
